New applications for Spain’s Golden Visa closed on 3 April 2025. Buying a property does not automatically give you residence rights.
What changed?
Spain abolished its investor residence scheme. The former property route starting at €500,000 is no longer available for new applications.
Existing applications and permits
Transitional provisions apply to applications submitted before 3 April 2025 and to existing permits. Existing permits remain valid for their term; renewals are assessed under the rules in force when the original permit was granted.
Buying property and residence
Buying a home and applying for residence are separate matters. Ask the Spanish consulate or a qualified immigration lawyer to assess your circumstances.
